Singing songs to children and with them will teach them about beat, tones, and lyrics which are all important in developing auditory discrimination. The use of instruments will promote fine motor development and encourage creative development. Creative movement helps children learn many concepts such as balance, coordination, rhythm, and is also an important tool for developing self-esteem and body awareness. (wikipedia) This is a fantastically fun class for children and their accompanying adult. The class runs for 60 minutes, the first half exploring yoga and movement, the second half drumming, singing, and learning about simple fundamentals of music- rhythm, synchronizing and more. Each class we feature music from a different nationality. Core Strength Yoga: Not Offered at this Time The core muscles lie deep within the torso and include the lower back, abdomen and hips. The role of the core muscles is to stabilize the spine, align the pelvis, and provide a solid foundation for all other movement in the body. Weakened core muscles can lead to poor posture, injury and chronic lower back pain. People are much more susceptible to lower back pain when their core muscles are weak. Often, when practicing asanas, people concentrate more on kicking a leg up higher, or straightening the legs, rather than focusing on the core muscles. Even if the muscles in the arms and legs are strong, the body will not move as efficiently if the core muscles are weak. Therefore, it will be much harder to hold postures and will be virtually impossible to go deeper into an asana practice.A strong core allows you to stay relaxed and use only the necessary muscles for any movement, eliminating unnecessary compensation from other muscle groups. Intended audience: This series of yoga poses is ideal for novice as well as experienced yoga students. It will also enhance posture and strength for athletes and experienced exercisers looking for variety and a change of pace from their usual routine. Each class we will focus on a different part of our core, learning the anatomy and physiology of that area, and what poses we can do to continue building our core strength. Chakra Yoga: Not Offered at This Time Over 7 weeks, we explore the energetic centers in our body, though a variety of means, including Yoga, essential oils, crystals and gemstones, sound- chanting and musical selections tailored to benefit each chakra, and meditation. Each week we will focus on a new chakra, starting with the root chakra- Muladhara, and learn about their properties, understand what causes imbalances, and then with Yoga and the other tools mentioned, we will work on balancing and enhancing our energetic bodies- the charkas, and our mind-body-spirit, thus bringing us into a healthier, happier, more whole state of well-being. Chakra Yoga will be appropriate for all levels of experience, of energy and yoga. |
